A MAN has been charged with killing a 48-year-old after a New Year's Eve brawl at the same site where six children were infamously killed by their twisted dad Mick Philpott.

Scott Benjamin, 31, has been charged with manslaughter after the death of Paul Roe after an alleged assault at a house in Victory Road, Derby - the same site where six children died in a devastating deliberate fire at their home five years ago.

Their dad - labelled "Shameless Mick" - was jailed for life after being convicted of killing children Duwayne, 13; his sister, Jade, 10; and their brothers, John, nine; Jack, eight; Jesse, six; and Jayden, five.

They all died from the effects of smoke inhalation after fire swept through their home.

His wife Mairead Philpott and family friend Paul Mosley were jailed for 17 years.

The trio were convicted of six counts of manslaughter in April 2013.

Sick Philpott and the pair hatched the twisted scheme planning to frame his ex-girlfriend - who had also lived in the house before moving out three months before - and set fire to the house with the intention of rescuing the children.

But their plan went horribly wrong, and the children all died of smoke inhalation.

The community initially rallied round the family, but the sickening truth of the trio's twisted revenge plot was eventually revealed.

The house of horrors and a neighbouring property were demolished and five homes built on the site, after community consultation.

There was overwhelming support from locals for the land to be used for new housing, which belongs to Derby Homes.

An inquest at Derby and South Derbyshire Coroners' Court in January last year heard Mr Roe was taken to hospital following an incident at one of the new buildings on New Year's Eve 2015.

Detective Constable Adam Wilkins said he suffered a heart attack and was initially taken to the Royal Derby Hospital and later transferred to the Queen's Medical Centre, where he died on January 7.
