FINSBURY Park station in North London is set to remain open after a van driver hit Muslim worshippers leaving a mosque outside the busy transport hub in the early hours of Monday morning (June 19).
Transport for London (TfL) have however warned it will be "very crowded" as a number of diversions have been put in place for bus drivers and motorists.
What we know so far about Finsbury Park attack?
- A van ran down pedestrians on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park, North London just after 12:20am on Monday morning
- One man was killed and ten people were injured outside Finsbury Park mosque as worshippers left a late evening prayer meeting
- Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as a terror attack
- Photos of the van used in the smash show it bearing the logo of a Wales-based rental company
- Scotland Yard confirmed a man, 48, had been arrested at the scene following a massive armed response
- He reportedly screamed “kill me, kill all Muslims” as hero bystanders tackled him to the ground
- Prime Minister Theresa May has said her “thoughts are with the victims”. She will chair an emergency session of the security Cabinet later today
- Jeremy Corbyn said he was “totally shocked”
- Muslim Council of Britain condemns the attack, saying they had “been calling for increased action to tackle the growth in hate crime for many years”
- The chairman of the Finsbury Park mosque says the van crash that hit worshippers was a “cowardly attack” and urged Muslims going to mosques to be vigilant
Will all of Finsbury Park station remain open?
Transport for London stated that there will be normal services throughout the morning on the Victoria, Piccadilly and Thameslink lines.
Commuters are advised to use the Station Place entrance but not the entry from Seven Sisters Road which is closed.
The A503 Seven Sisters Road is shut between Hornsey Road and Blackstock Road and Isledon Road has also been closed due to the police investigation, reported the Metro.
TfL Traffic News said they expect Seven Sisters road to be closed for some time.
The authority's Victoria Line page tweeted: "Finsbury Park - If you can, please avoid the station today- will be v crowded and may temporarily close during peak (time). Police investigation."
Are there diversions in place?
There will be diversions on these routes according to TfL: 4, 29, 253, 259, N29, N253, N279.
They are being diverted between Holloway Nags Head and Finsbury Park in both directions.
Route 254 is curtailed to Manor House and Route 153 is curtailed to Holloway Nags Head due to the incident.
Seven Sisters Road is closed at the junction of Whadcoat Street, near the busy Finsbury Park station.
Motorists were advised to avoid Seven Sisters Road, Fonthill Road, Isledon Road and Whadcoat Street, reported the Evening Standard.
TfL said they expect Seven Sisters Road to closed for some time.
