A HORRIFIED mum discovered an "amphibian-like" object at the bottom of her son's fruit pot and is demanding answers from bosses at Cow and Gate.

Samantha Archer's son, Rafferty Archer-Overall, was tucking into his favourite apple, apricot and strawberry flavoured snack and had just finished when family members noticed a strange, "rubbery" object at the bottom of the pot.

The mum, from Buckinghamshire, told The Sun Online: "I was out at the time and had just arrived home. My mum had been looking after my son and just looked mortified.

"I asked her what happened and she showed me the fruit pot. It was just absolutely vile.

"We got my step-dad around and he looked at it with a pair of tweezers. He studied marine biology at university and the first thing he said was 'is that a frog?'

"He said it was like an amphibian, and it is just really rubbery. How does that find its way into a fruit pot? This just shouldn't happen.

The 29-year-old called Cow and Gate, who claimed that the item could not have got into the pot within their factory, but sent Mrs Archer a £10 voucher.

Mrs Archer was furious that they did not apologise.

"I know accidents happen," she said.

"But they don't seem fussed, and don't seem bothered enough to recall the item.

"My son is a fussy eater, but eats a lot of Cow and Gate products.

"After all this though we won't be buying them again."

A Cow and Gate spokeswoman said: "We were very concerned to hear about Ms Archer’s experience when she contacted us last Friday.

"From the photographs and description, our Quality Specialist is confident that the foreign matter is mould. In fact, you can see mould has also formed on the rim of the pot.

"Ms Archer has chosen to have her complaint investigated by her local Environmental Health Officer and we respect that decision.

"However, experience tells us that it is most likely that the mould formed following damage to the foil lid of the pot or if the lid was not sealed correctly.

"We want every consumer to enjoy our products and obviously, however it happened, this is not the standard of product we are happy with.

"Of course we take this very seriously and we will co-operate fully and openly with any investigations."

Yesterday it emerged that a different customer found the Cow and Gate baby food to be full of mouldy lumps.

And in December, a young mum told how she found live maggots in her Cow and Gate porridge.
