AN interior designer has shared the Christmas decor that will elevate your home this holiday season.

The TikToker detailed the styles to opt for and a popular choice to avoid at all costs.

In her video, Shawna (@truelove_designs) explained: "Your Christmas décor doesn't have to be tacky.

"Here are a couple of tips for having beautiful, luxurious Christmas décor that is meant to stand out."

For her first suggestion, the décor expert highlighted the age-old design rule: Less is more.

"Don’t go overboard, doing a little vinet on the island or your coffee table can go a long way," Shawna told viewers.

She also recommended opting for high-quality decorations that you will get years of use out of.

"Really invest in your Christmas décor, you can get a little bit more expensive items but they can last you for years," she said.

For her next tip, Shawna revealed the popular style worth avoiding in your home.

She recommended: "Go with white lights instead of multi-colored just to keep it kind of a bit more monotone.

"Then also for your actual decorations, keeping it monotone, playing with the more natural elements and textures can really keep it more classic than that tacky feel that we don’t want," Shawna explained.

One of Shawna's followers wasn't completely sold on the decorating advice.

She explained: "I agree with the less is more [tip] but I love that Christmas time is when you can have multi-colored lights and fill your tree with memories rather than 'décor.'

"My tree is filled with my kids' handmade ornaments, I love it, some might say it’s tacky but I disagree."

Another TikToker shared her homemade fragrance that she uses to get her house smelling like Christmas.

Or if you want to take a handier approach to creating a festive atmosphere there are plenty of Christmas candles available.
