Britains best kebabs revealed.but does your local doner make the cut? -

IF you thought the Oscars was the biggest awards ceremony next month, think again.

Brits will soon celebrate a more culinary-themed special occasion - The British Kebab Awards.

An estimated 1.3 million doner kebabs are sold by 20,000 takeaway restaurants every day in Britain - and two years ago vegetarian Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was even a guest of honour at the gala.

What is the difference between a shish kebab, a kofte, and a doner?

Shish kebabs are grilled cubes of meat, usually served on skewers. Traditionally, marinated lamb or chicken is used, but vegitarian options include egg plant and tofu. They come with a number of sides and salad.

Shish kofte are grilled balls of minced meat compressed to resemble meatloaf. They're almost always made of marinated lamb, and usually served with rice and pita.

Doner kebabs are a staple of nights out in Britain. Unlike the other two, they are traditionally eaten as a takeaway. They are made up of marinated lamb stuck to a giant rotating skewer, then shaved off into a pitta bread.
