A YOUNG private has been found dead just yards from his army base.

The man, in his 20s, told fellow soldiers he was "going on leave this week" but his body was found near the camp in Blandford Forum, Dorset.

Privates said he had "boxed up" his room and Dorset Police said they were called on Wednesday morning after a body was found near the camp, which is home to the Royal Signals.

The Army confirmed that cops are not treating the death as suspicious and said their thoughts are with his family.

It comes just weeks after a female army cadet at Sandhurst was found dead in an apparent suicide following a drunken night out.

The 21-year-old was found in her room at the Royal Military Academy - where both Princes William and Harry trained - earlier this month.

"DIFFICULT TIME"

An Army spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident near Blandford Camp which has resulted in the death of a service person.

"Our thoughts are with their family at this difficult time.

"The Dorset Police are investigating and are not treating the death as suspicious.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further."
